Formula
CO(NH2)2
Mol. Weight
60.06 g/mol

Urea Technical Grade is a white, crystalline solid containing 46% nitrogen. Unlike agricultural-grade urea, the technical grade is produced under stringent conditions to minimize impurities such as biuret, moisture, and heavy metals. It is highly soluble in water, making it a versatile precursor for various chemical syntheses, particularly in the production of formaldehyde resins and automotive-grade urea solutions. Moonarc Chemicals ensures a consistent supply of free-flowing prills, treated to prevent caking during long-distance maritime transport.

Applications

  • Raw material for urea-formaldehyde (UF) and melamine-formaldehyde (MF) resins.
  • Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems (AdBlue/DEF production).
  • Feed additive for ruminant livestock (protein substitute).
  • Chemical intermediate in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry.
  • Textile dyeing and printing auxiliary.
  • Yeast nutrient in industrial fermentation.

Industries served

  • Automotive & Transport
  • Adhesives & Sealants
  • Wood Processing (Plywood/MDF)
  • Textiles & Leather
  • Pharmaceuticals & Personal Care
  • Animal Feed & Nutrition

Key benefits

  • High nitrogen content (46% min) for industrial efficiency.
  • Exceptional solubility in water and alcohol.
  • Lower heavy metal and biuret content compared to agricultural grades.
  • Consistent prill size for uniform dissolving and blending.
  • Non-toxic and relatively safe handling profile.

Storage

Store in original packaging in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area away from incompatible materials (strong oxidizers, nitrites). Temperature should ideally be below 30°C. Urea is hygroscopic; ensure bags are kept airtight to prevent caking and degradation.

Handling

Avoid dust formation. Wear personal protective equipment (gloves, safety glasses). Wash thoroughly after handling. Use in a well-ventilated area. Although urea is non-combustible, it decompose at high temperatures to release toxic fumes (ammonia, nitrogen oxides).

Transport

Not regulated for transport (Non-hazardous). Sea: Not restricted (IMDG). Road/Rail: Not restricted (ADR/RID). Air: Not restricted (IATA). HS Code: 3102.1000.
