Tyre Scrap, also known as End-of-Life Tyres (ELT), is a complex multi-component material consisting of natural and synthetic rubber (SBR, Polybutadiene), carbon black, steel wire, and textile reinforcements (polyester/nylon). Moonarc Chemicals supplies processed tyre scrap as a vital resource for the circular economy. It is primarily utilized for its high energy density in combustion processes or as a chemical feedstock in pyrolysis to recover fuel oil and recovered carbon black (rCB). Our supply chain ensures consistent calorific value and moisture levels, tailored to industrial thermal requirements.

Applications

  • Feedstock for Pyrolysis Plants (Bio-oil, Carbon Black, and Syngas production)
  • Tire-Derived Fuel (TDF) for cement kilns and paper mills
  • Civil engineering applications (lightweight fill, embankments)
  • Raw material for Crumb Rubber Modifier (CRM) in asphalt and bitumens
  • Manufacture of rubberized flooring and playground surfaces

Industries served

  • Waste-to-Energy
  • Cement and Lime Manufacturing
  • Rubber Recycling & Reclaiming
  • Construction and Civil Engineering
  • Pyrolysis and Chemical Recovery

Key benefits

  • High calorific value (approx. 32-35 MJ/kg) making it an excellent coal supplement
  • Cost-effective alternative to virgin rubber polymers for low-tech applications
  • Contributes to circular economy and LEED certification for construction projects
  • Reduced landfill waste through industrial repurposing
  • Consistent supply availability from global collection networks

Technical specifications

Storage

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated outdoor area or a warehouse equipped with fire suppression systems. Maintain 'fire breaks' or gaps between piles to prevent large-scale combustion. Keep away from strong oxidizing agents and open flames. Prevent accumulation of stagnant water in whole tyres to avoid pest breeding.

Handling

Use heavy-duty mechanized loaders for bulk handling. Personnel should wear puncture-resistant gloves, safety boots, and high-visibility clothing. If handling shredded material, dust masks are recommended to avoid inhalation of rubber particulates. Avoid contact with ignition sources.

Transport

Not regulated as a hazardous material for transport (Non-ADR/IMDG). However, international shipments are subject to the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal. Must be shipped as 'Green List' waste (B3140) in many jurisdictions.

Packaging options

Loose Bulk (vessel loading) · Baled (Whole or Shredded) · Jumbo Bags (for fine crumb/chips) · 40ft HC Containerized (Loose loaded)
